Volleyball Filling a Niche

Drew Crawford is currently working on a TV piece about the lack of a gay community in London. There is just one week where Pride is celebrated in the city, and the city itself lacks any form of pride resource. Currently, London Ontario has one gay bar and one bathhouse. While these locations are places for gay people to meet, they are highly centered around sex and alcohol. There is little to do for those who aren’t into the bar scene, who are too old to feel comfortable in bars, or those who hold values that go against bathhouses.

A volleyball league was started in London some years ago, and is one of the only alternative ways for gay people to meet others in a social setting. Adam Chapman is one of the men supporting the league as a way of establishing community and has been recruiting people for the past several years. Drew will be going to one of the teams practices and follow them to the restaurant where they meet each week. Video coming soon.
